Energised Work
A while back I was in the middle of a programming contract, firmly embedded in the waterfall and associated "blame culture". Someone asked on a work night out whether my long terms plans were in IT: he was (is) trying to get into medicine. I was surprised to find that I was no longer sure. I certainly wasn't enjoying that contract a great deal and I could tell that the project was heading for trouble - what was worse was there did not seem a great deal that I could do about it. I think I evaded the question.
What turned my attitude round was booking on Agile courses and conferences. My CSM course rekindled my enthusiasm, and I've kept it going by attending various other Agile events such as the Poppendieck's Glasgow course, XPDay London, and of course Agile Scotland and XP Wednesday meetings. It's especially good to hear all the XP and Scrum success stories from attendees at these events. Pretty close to Kathy Sierra's advice here.
